Charles P. Smith

Charlie Smith is a management and project consultant connecting public and private sector interests across a diverse range of fields. At Oleet & Co., Mr. Smith leads the firm's evaluation of targeted merchant banking opportunities.

From 2006 - 2009, Mr. Smith was President of the Snelling Center for Government, a non-profit, non-partisan organization that fosters responsible and ethical civic leadership, encourages public service by private citizens, and promotes informed citizen participation in shaping public policy in Vermont. Prior to being appointed to his position at the Snelling Center, Mr. Smith served Vermont Governor James H. Douglas - starting in January 2003 as Secretary of the Agency of Human Services (where he led the Agency's reorganization), and then transitioning to Secretary of Administration in February 2005.

Before returning to public service, Mr. Smith was the Vermont District President and Senior Commercial lender for KeyBank, NA based in Burlington, Vermont; Mr. Smith served as Vice President of KeyBank and its predecessors from 1988 - 1996. From 1984 - 1987, Mr. Smith was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Transphase Systems, Inc. in California.

Prior to moving to California, Mr. Smith was Staff Director and Administrative Assistant for Congressman James Jeffords from 1981 - 1983; Assistant to the Chairman of the Vermont Public Service Board from 1980 - 1981, and a Representative in the Vermont House for the City of Burlington from 1975 - 1978.

Mr. Smith graduated from Harvard College in 1978, and attended the University of Melbourne (Melbourne, Australia) on a one year Rotary Foundation Scholarship. Charlie lives in Burlington with his wife, Amy Mellencamp and their children, Emily and Chas.
